Seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with excellent VMWare skills for our client located in Dallas, TX. Onsite presence will be required during orientation period, then will transition to a hybrid schedule. The initial duration is through the end of the year. Position could extend or convert to a full-time role. W2 Contract Only / No C2C.

The role of the VMWare Engineer is to ensure the stability, integrity, availability and efficient operation of the information systems that support core organizational functions.
• To be successful, this Engineer will need to apply advanced technical knowledge in order to build, configure, deploy and support VMWare and Storage infrastructure, supporting all server operating systems, Active Directory services, enterprise backup solutions, Citrix, web servers, SharePoint and other enterprise system level applications.
• The position requires the application of advanced judgment and analysis in the evaluation, selection, installation and maintenance of systems software and hardware.
• Success in the role dictates ongoing improvement of processes and applying best practices to the environment.
• Support is generally for large scale systems with high criticality to the business.
• The ideal candidate will want to be challenged with new technology, have a thorough understanding of virtualization, and the vision to build an improved server infrastructure.

Day-to-day Responsibilities
• Design, deploy and maintain a computing and storage environment sufficient to support current and future organizational needs.
• Perform general VMware system administration duties.
• Establish and maintain VMWare, SAN and Windows architecture best practices, including procedures, guides, templates, and relevant documentation.
• Advanced troubleshooting of production issues as needed, including producing root cause analysis reports when required.
• Participate in a geographically dispersed 24 x 7 support organization.
• Collaborate with business, IT associates, and outside vendors to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems required to fulfill business objectives and processes.
• Monitor and evaluate operating efficiency, virtual server performance, bandwidth usage and error logs to identify and correct problems as they arise.
• Monitor and evaluate storage area networks and resolve complex issues related to storage performance, capacity and availability.
• Analyze information systems problems to identify and correct problem areas while maintaining records, inventories and technical documentation.
• Based on performance analysis and tuning, assist in computing and storage capacity planning according to industry accepted best practices.
• Follow established procedures required for efficient management of the infrastructure, as well as defining and enforcing new standards when necessary.
• Design, implement, manage and support virtual infrastructure.
• Integrate solutions into Windows Active Directory.
• Evaluate, customize and maintain operating systems, hypervisors and storage firmware including installing and testing new releases.
• Review, evaluate and recommend new or upgraded systems software packages and related hardware, based on established and emerging standards
• Maintain awareness of new developments for software, server and storage technologies.
• Develop and automate processes to expedite and streamline workloads.
• Create templates that will build hundreds of virtual servers to run line of business applications.
• Work cooperatively with department heads and other IT department members to address requests, resolve complaints and issues on a service-oriented, timely basis.
• Gather and/or develop requirements for changing business needs and translate them into technical solutions when appropriate.
• Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmer and development teams.
• Design and implement system backup procedures, real time replication and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
• Run maintenance and utility programs on servers to ensure optimum performance.
• Create custom scripts for deployment, monitoring and reporting as needed.
• Create and maintain system technical documentation.
• Maintain records to ensure that software licensing is in compliance.
• Provide technical support to staff in a courteous manner.

Required Experience
• IT related degree, Associates or Bachelor program, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Advanced VMWare virtual infrastructure design, implementation and ongoing management including technologies such as vCenter, vMotion, HA, DRS, Storage DRS, DVS, FT, SRM, Orchestration, etc with 30+ host cluster.
• In-depth knowledge of shared storage technology and architecture in highly virtualized VMware environments.
• Proven analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
• Highly self-motivated and directed, with attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks with confidence in a high-pressure environment.
• Demonstrated advanced level knowledge of the platform, operating systems, and protocols to be supported including Microsoft Windows Active Directory (2008, 2012), DFS, and Various Windows Server OSes including Server 2012R2, desktop OSes Windows 7 & 10, TCP/IP, and general server hardware.
• Scripting and automation to improve operations productivity and lower cost of operations. (VB, Powershell, CLI, Batch File) .
• Experience with high availability architectures, clustering, replication design, installation and management.
• Knowledge of Active Directory, management and maintenance.
• Active Directory Group Policy Management of servers and endpoints.
• Working with diverse co-located Data Center environment.
• Demonstrated English language communication skills required to collaborate with technical team, management, and business stakeholders. Ability to build positive working relationships and influence collaboratively across IT teams.
• Ability to restore service rapidly, using logical troubleshooting methodologies and tools.
• Knowledge of best practices for maintaining network and storage security.
• Ability to follow established change management procedures.
• Ability to work with Project Mangers and facilitate project requests.
• Ability to use Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint tools to help organize work and communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
• Ability to work without supervision and given latitude for independent action and drive results.
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects and assigned workload in an organized manner to achieve results.
• Ability to work with confidential/sensitive information.
• Professional dress and mature demeanor.

Preferred Experience
• VMWare certifications ex. VCP5-DCV, VCAP5-DCA, VCAP5-DCD, VCDX-DCV.
• Microsoft certifications .
• Storage certifications.
• Citrix certifications.
• Citrix XenApp platform experience.
• Netscaler Loadbalancer configuration and maintenance.
• Experience with Data Center moves .
• DR/BC planning and execution.
• Experience using SolarWinds, ServiceNow and Veeam Availability Suite.
• An ability to enhance the technical expertise of peers via product training and mentoring and an ability to actively participate in team support by proposing and implementing solutions.
